"Cause we came out of the cave and we looked over the hill and we saw fire. And we crossed the ocean and we pioneered the West and we took to the sky. The history of man is hung on a timeline of exploration..." - Sam Seaborn

Daily Kos - the state of the nation

I have included this blog mainly due to the fact that it is one of America's most influential and well known political blogs. It averages over 700,000 visits a day and has between 20-25m visits per month! It is very left wing and liberal and is a major critic of the current Bush Administration (who isn't nowadays!). It is an example of how blogging has revolutionised political discourse, strategy and debate in the 21st century.

Barack Obama

I know that this blog is primarily an anthology of the greatest blogs on the web (I wondered how long it would take me to write a full post!) , however, I thought it was worth drawing your attention to this speech given by Barack Obama (Senator, Illinois) at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 - see link on right.

Much has been made recently about Barack Obama's potential as the Democratic presidential candidate for 2008, and he has been widely tipped at Hillary Clinton's most dangerous challenger for the nomination. For Obama's supporters, exhibit A has been the speech that he gave at the DNC back in 2004. I have read it and I was struck by its power and humanity. Speech can change the world and Obama seems to have all the qualities to one day be regarded along with the greats.

Reading this speech gave me the idea of including on this blog a list of the world's greatest speeches, those that have brought down barriers, inspired nations and shaped the attitudes of generations. They will not feature regularly as posts on the blog but I will build up a list of them on the links section.
